Welcome to Acorn Class!

Our class is Reception, Year One and Year Two. Our class teachers are Mrs Burton and Mrs Rotchell, supported by Mrs Wragg, Mrs O’Leary and Mrs Davies.

Please send your child to school with a clearly labelled water bottle each day. Staying hydrated is still important, and children will be reminded to drink regularly throughout the day.

Our PE day this year is Wednesday – please can the children come to school in their PE kit on PE days, with long hair tied back and earrings either removed or covered.

The mobile library visits on alternate Tuesday – books to be returned to school alternate Tuesdays, please!

We plan to visit the Future Forest on a regular basis, when it best enhances our curriculum. Please ensure there are always wellies and a warm/waterproof coat in school!

Homework and Reading

A homework menu will be sent home this half term, offering a range of optional, topic-based activities. These can be completed over time. Please send any finished projects into school on Monday 13th October so we can celebrate and share them with the class.

Spelling homework will be sent home every Friday for the children in Year 1 and Year 2, focusing on tricky words taught during the week. While there won’t be formal tests, we’ll be looking for correct spelling in the children’s written work.

There are two types of reading books that your child will be bringing home: a reading Practice Book which will be carefully matched to your child’s current reading level (please ensure this comes to school every day) and a Sharing Book from the mobile library – return alternate weeks. Your child’s new Practice Book will be sent home every Thursday. If your child is reading it with little help, please don’t worry that it’s too easy – your child needs to develop fluency and confidence when reading.

There are lots of ways to support your child at home and to build on what they  learn in school. Reading with or to people in your family is a great one! Please remember to sign your child’s Reading Diary to say that they have read. This is a really good way to communicate with school.
