Oak Class – Public Speaking Competition and Homework

Hello all,

I apologise for the lack of information regarding the Half Term homework for Oak Class – it seems our website had a couple of issues uploading my post!

With this in mind, I have extended the homework task, now due in on Monday 10th June instead of Thursday 6th June.

Homework – To gather information and create a fact sheet about an animal of your choice. We will be using these to create a non-chronological report in our English lessons, so make it as informative and full as possible! Try to create at least 5 different headings, for example: Habitat, appearance, diet, offspring, characteristics, mating rituals etc.

Public Speaking Competition – This years competition will be held on Wednesday 19th June at the Merchant Adventurers Hall at 6:15pm. If you would like to take part, you need to write a small piece about one of the following headings (make sure it is less than 5 minutes in length):

  • Should York be more like New York?
  • Which are the best buildings built in York in the last 100 years?
  • Could York become the most environmentally friendly city in the UK?
  • Is York a safe city to cycle around?
  • If you met a Roman centurion today, what parts of York would you show him?

Please hand these in anonymously (with no name) so that we can judge fairly. The winning two speeches will team up together to take part in the competition.

The Public Speaking Competition entries need to be put on my desk by break time on Monday 10th June to be considered, as we are fast approaching the date itself!

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.

Many thanks

Miss Brett
