Welcome to the Year 5/6 pages

Summer 2008

This term our topic is Plants. We will be finding out about the structure of plants and how different factors affect their growth.  We will look at setting goals and Year 6 will be getting to know their new school for next year as well as starring in the Summer Show!

The term began with preparation for the Year 6’s SATS and anticipation for our residential visit to Robinwood.

The main topic of plants has meant lots of seeds germinating, repotting and watering and hoping that some fruit will bear before the end of the year.

There has been lots of art work linked to the plants topic, we have sewn some flower collages, pressed flowers and leaves from our environment, printed and painted some still life. We are going to visit the local Brunswick nursery for two craft workshop sessions, cycling along the bike track to get there.

Both Year 5 and 6 are having cycle training sessions this term.

Year 6 are following a transition programme, both in maths and PSHE to plan for Year 7 in their secondary schools.

In English we are breaking from the topic and looking at the work of Micheal Morpurgo, having read The War of Jenkins Ear last term, this term’s class read in When the Whales Came and we are studying in detail Kensuke’s Kingdom.

The girls had the opportunity to enter a tag rugby competition so extra training sessions were set up for this. We are again having tennis coaching at the Next Generation gym on Friday afternoons.

The school production has at last been decided on, so there will be lots of singing and dancing practices for our version of Cinderella.
