Helping Reception Children to Learn

The Early Years Foundation Stage prepares pre-school and Reception children for entering Key Stage 1 and the world of the National Curriculum.

The Early Years Foundation Stage is organised quite differently from the National Curriculum.

The six areas of learning are:

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication, language and literacy
  • Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Creative development

Through structured play and guided experiential learning the children gain specific skills and grow in readiness for the next step of their school career.
